During those years in Milan before the antique market by Naviglio Grande became a turist attraction, it was one of the most exciting in its genre. Hundreds of small and corky stands had each the most amazing useful and useless things to offer; ranging from unique and beautiful handembroided sleeping gowns, rare Chanel pieces, Cobra phones, 100 years old paintings by unknown artists to chrystals from longtime fallen chandeliers. Even if the market in itself was utterly exciting in those days, the absolutely most intruiging moments were (happening from time to time without notice) when one could hear an arousing scream ending in a shivering light voice, sometimes near, sometimes far away. It was the evidence that an admirably dressed young man, attending classes at one of Milans prestigious fashion schools, caught a glimps of a Roberta di Camrino hand bag. The whole scene was an amusing moment for everyone nearby. The young hipster was rarely alone, most of the time he was paired up with a likeman or follwed by some giggling girls from first grade. He grabbed the bag, held it high while screaming, then squeezing it hard to his chest to never let it go out of sight again. No one really knows how much he was asked to pay, but he always left the market with Roberta di Camerino under his arm and with his head held high.
If one of these young men is the reason Roberta di Camerino decided to re launch in 2008 we might never know. Anyhow, the bags are fortunately looking exactly the same today as the ones at the Navigli market, learning a whole new generation fashion lovers about love.
